Ascended Back Items are unique in that they are only obtainable through crafting and certain collection rewards. There are over 20 different ascended back items in Guild Wars 2, with varying acquisition costs. While many of the ascended back items are locked in to a specific stat set, there are several which allow you to select the stats, and those are the ones that we’ll be focusing on. Cheapest Ascended Back Items (Gold)
The following ascended back items are the cheapest in terms of gold.
Prototype Fractal Capacitor
The Prototype Fractal Capacitor is technically the cheapest ascended back item in the game, although it does require a significant time investment to obtain Fractal Relics. There are two variants depending on if you want an offensive or defensive infusion slot. The defensive slot version requires Philosopher’s Stones while the offensive slot version requires Mystic Crystals.

Mawdrey
Mawdrey is an ascended back item that is obtained after growing three generations of vines as part of a scavenger hunt type quest for the required components. Although there are substantial gold costs involved with the quest for Mawdrey, it is still one of the cheapest ascended back items in the game. Mawdrey is also the cheapest ascended back item to infuse, since it is one of the few items that does NOT require 250 Globs of Ectoplasm (Thanks /u/TemporaryShadow).
